The useful price for a replacement retainer is a written quote for the appliance and care you actually need—not a single figure that assumes every case is the same. Ask what is included before comparing prices across Perth practices.
Start with the type of replacement
Replacing one clear removable tray is a different request from assessing a loose fixed wire or making a new appliance after tooth movement. The British Orthodontic Society describes several retainer types and emphasises that the choice and instructions are individual.
Tell the practice who provided your original treatment, what appliance you have and whether records are available. An old scan may or may not be suitable for the current situation; ask what needs to be checked rather than assuming the laboratory can simply duplicate the previous retainer.
Ask for an itemised estimate
- Is the assessment included or charged separately?
- Is the quote for one arch or both?
- Are new scans or impressions included?
- What type of appliance and laboratory work are proposed?
- Does the fee include fitting and any adjustment visit?
- What happens if the first assessment finds movement requiring a different plan?
- Are future repairs or replacements separate charges?
Check health fund benefits separately
Ask for the proposed item numbers and a written estimate, then confirm with your insurer whether benefits apply under your policy. Ask about remaining limits and any relevant conditions. A previous orthodontic rebate does not establish that a replacement retainer will be covered now.
Our retainers page is the main treatment reference. Contact the practice for an assessment and an estimate specific to your needs. This guide does not advertise a fixed replacement price or guarantee an insurance payment.
If the appliance is lost or damaged, explain that when arranging the visit. Choose a plan that addresses fit and ongoing retention, not only the lowest advertised appliance price.
