Medibank’s ‘100% back’ check-up benefit covers qualifying examination and preventive care items for eligible Extras members. At a Members’ Choice Advantage dentist, it can also include clinically required bitewing X-rays. Your product, waiting periods and visit allowance determine eligibility; fillings and other additional treatment are not automatically included.
This guide explains what to check before your visit. For information about appointments and claiming at our practice, see our Medibank dental care in Canning Vale page.
Who may qualify for the check-up benefit
Medibank currently describes up to two annual check-ups with 100% back at a Members’ Choice Advantage dentist for eligible Extras members, including clinically required bitewing X-rays. A two-month waiting period applies. Those qualifying check-ups sit outside the annual limit for the eligible products covered by this arrangement.
There are product exceptions. Healthy Living Extras provides one qualifying check-up annually; Gold Ultra Health provides up to three at Members’ Choice or Members’ Choice Advantage providers. The eligible items and conditions must be checked against your cover. Medibank sets these out in its dental benefits information.
When checking eligibility, use the exact product name in your membership documents. ‘I have Medibank’ is not enough to establish what a particular visit will cost.
Which parts of an appointment need checking
A dental visit can contain several separately billed services. Medibank lists examinations, certain cleaning services and clinically necessary fluoride among its qualifying preventive items. The services actually provided depend on your assessment. Its common dental procedures guide explains the relevant categories.
Ask which items are proposed for your visit and whether each is included in your benefit. A filling identified during a check-up, for example, should be discussed as a separate treatment rather than assumed to be part of the check-up arrangement.
Bitewing X-rays are not the same as every dental scan
The reference to bitewing X-rays should not be read as a promise that every type of imaging is covered. If another image or scan is recommended, ask for its item number and check that item with Medibank.
Your dentist should explain why imaging is relevant to your care. Our digital dental X-rays page provides more information about imaging at the practice.
A short checklist before your appointment
- Confirm your exact Extras product and whether waiting periods have been served.
- Check how many qualifying visits you have already claimed this calendar year, including at another practice.
- Ask which examination, cleaning and imaging items are expected, and whether anything falls outside the check-up benefit.
- Bring your current physical Medibank card or an accepted digital card.
A useful question is: ‘If we proceed with these items, is there an estimated amount for me to pay?’ Keep that discussion separate from any additional treatment recommended after the examination.
Planning your check-up in Canning Vale
Our dental check-up information explains the service. When you contact the practice, mention any particular concerns so the appointment can be planned appropriately. The timing of your next examination should reflect your dental needs, rather than simply the number of visits available under your cover.
This is general information, not confirmation of an individual claim. Check current eligibility and benefit conditions with Medibank before treatment.
